ECU TechnicalHardware and Software IdentificationIdentifying the ECUIdentifying an ECU correctly is necessary when performing several ECU flashing procedures and allows you to verify the file you are loading onto the ECU prior to flashing it. Through different generations of ECUs, there are a variety of labeling schemes which change the location of the necessary identification information including the ECU ID number as well as the software revision, both of which are labeled in the corresponding images below. The two primary ECU manufacturers, Bosch and Siemens have similar but different labeling structures which will be covered in the document below. In addition to identifying the ECU, we will also be showing how to identify the specific processor on the ECUs that require a boot pin procedure to be performed prior to the initial performance software flash to help validate the retrieved file before proceeding with the initial flash.Outside LabelingCertain ECUs might require peeling back of a sticker to retrieve the necessary information.
